History of Queen Anne Upholstery and Refinishing
Our Family Story
The legacy of fine craftsmanship dates back to 1936, when Queen Anne Upholstery started out restoring one-of- a-kind, high-end furnishings for Seattle’s wealthiest and most discerning private residences. Robert Emtage was born and raised in New Jersey and as a young man, relocated to Seattle in 1972 after serving his country in the Vietnam War. It was here that he developed a passion for high quality, fine furniture, enrolling in and completing his apprenticeship training in furniture restoration. In 1984 Robert purchased Ballard Refinishers and two years later purchased Queen Anne Upholstery from their original founders. In 2012, Ballard Refinishers and Queen Anne Upholstery were merged into one – to be called Queen Anne Upholstery and Refinishing.
Robert passed on his skills in the fine art and business of upholstery, wood finishing, and custom furniture building to his 2 daughters and 3 sons. In the early 1990’s Roberts’ son Seth Emtage took over the helm and began expanding the business. Over the last several decades Queen Anne Upholstery & Refinishing and its commercial division, the QA Group, have become the industry leader in the Pacific Northwest and beyond—specializing in custom designed furniture building, upholstery, and wood refinishing of all types. Queen Anne combines the excellence of old world pride and craftsmanship with innovative, modern services your business and organization can always count on.
Today the company has over 30 employees, with showrooms in Seattle’s Queen Anne district and in the heart of Bellevue; along with a 34,000 square foot production facility. We are proud to be family owned and operated, and where family members remain very much involved in all key aspects of the business. You will still find Seth Emtage stopping by all departments chatting with staff to ensure that the long-held traditions of Quality, Craftsmanship and Service are still first and foremost in the minds of every member of the Queen Anne team.
