The Legacy Behind Queen Anne Upholstery: A Family of Brands and Craftsmanship
When you hear Queen Anne Upholstery, you’re not just hearing the name of a single upholstery shop – you’re hearing the story of a growing family of craftsmen, artisans, and legacy businesses that have come together over decades to form the largest upholstery and refinishing company in Washington State.
Queen Anne Upholstery is proudly licensed, bonded, and insured, and today we serve clients across the Pacific Northwest from our Kent facility. But our story is rooted in the many small, beloved upholstery shops we’ve merged with and supported over the years… shops that people still remember fondly, even decades later.
We’ve had the honor of carrying their names, techniques, and reputations forward. Below are some of the most recognized businesses that have become part of the Queen Anne Upholstery family.
Dee’s Upholstery and Cleaning (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Originally founded in the 1970s, Dee’s Upholstery and Cleaning was a trusted name in local upholstery and furniture care for decades. What many don’t know is that the owner of Dee’s was actually the visionary behind the growth of what is now Queen Anne Upholstery – leading the charge in merging with other small, skilled shops across the region.
Today, Dee’s is fully integrated into Queen Anne Upholstery, and the business remains family-owned and operated, now into its third generation. While the name “Dee’s” may not be on the door anymore, its commitment to quality service, expert craftsmanship, and customer care is very much alive and thriving within the Queen Anne team.
Loyal Heights Upholstery & Design (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Loyal Heights Upholstery & Design was a beloved neighborhood shop serving the Loyal Heights community in Northwest Seattle for many years. When Queen Anne Upholstery acquired the business in the early 2000s, we made it a priority to keep the shop operating in its original location for as long as possible, honoring the relationships and reputation built in that area.
Eventually, we consolidated operations into our main Queen Anne location near Elliott Avenue, but our commitment to the Loyal Heights community never changed. We continue to proudly serve Loyal Heights residents, ensuring that the high level of craftsmanship and customer care people remember from Loyal Heights Upholstery lives on through Queen Anne Upholstery.
Empire Upholstery Service (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Empire Upholstery served customers out of North Seattle, near Holman Road, and built a strong reputation for reliable, skilled upholstery work. We acquired Empire in the early 2000s as part of our effort to expand our reach and capabilities across the Seattle area. While the original storefront is no longer there, the expertise, tools, and loyal customer base of Empire live on through Queen Anne Upholstery. Many longtime Empire clients still come to us today, recognizing the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship they’ve trusted for years.
Ballard Refinishers (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Our most significant merger came in 2009 when we joined forces with Ballard Refinishers. This partnership helped us expand into expert wood refinishing, touch-ups, repair work, and custom stain matching. Ballard Refinishers was beloved for both residential and commercial work, and several of the original craftsmen are still with us today – bringing unmatched experience to every refinishing project we take on.
This merge also marked our transition to Queen Anne Upholstery & Refinishing, a name that reflects the broader range of services we proudly offer today. We even invested in a state-of-the-art spray booth to ensure top-tier finish quality for every piece that comes through our doors.
Furniture Spa (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Another gem from the Ballard neighborhood, Furniture Spa was a small but beloved shop, known for its meticulous attention to detail. Furniture Spa had a reputation for “reviving” tired pieces with true craftsmanship, hence the name. We acquired Furniture Spa in the early 2000s, not just to expand our services, but to preserve the care and skill that made them a local favorite. Many of their original techniques still influence the way we restore and finish furniture today.
Ma Lee’s Custom Upholstery (Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery)
Ma Lee’s Custom Upholstery merged with Queen Anne Upholstery in 2019. Based in Bellevue, Ma Lee’s was a respected, family-run shop known for high-end custom work, precision craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to quality. For over 20 years, Ma-Lee Rogers and her two sons, Adrian and Jon, built a loyal customer base across the Eastside (including Kirkland) and greater Seattle, handling everything from full reupholstery and slipcovers to refinishing and custom-built furniture. The business grew through word-of-mouth thanks to their consistent, detail-oriented work. Upholstery runs deep in the Rogers family… Ma-Lee first learned the trade in California, where she met her late husband Scott while working at a local shop. He eventually learned the craft too, and together they passed it on to their sons. Today, both Ma-Lee and her son Adrian are still with us at our Kent facility, working side by side with the QA team. Their experience, dedication, and pride in their work have been a huge part of our continued growth; if you’re looking for the same quality Ma Lee’s was known for, you’ll still find it here!
Additional Shops Now Part of Queen Anne Upholstery
In addition to the major names we’ve mentioned, there are other smaller but equally meaningful parts of our history. Furniture Fix-It was one such shop, known for expert repairs, refinishing, antiquing, and specialty work like cane and rush seat restoration. Another was Good-As-New Furniture, Antiques & Carpets, a shop we also acquired in the mid-70s, which brought in experience with both antique furniture and area rug care (the latter of which is fully phased out now). While these names may not be as widely recognized today, their work lives on in the services and skills we still offer, and we’re proud to carry on their legacy under the Queen Anne Upholstery name.
A Living Legacy
Each of these businesses had its time, and thanks to the loyalty of their customers, many are still searched for online today. That lasting recognition speaks volumes about the quality of their work and the relationships they built. We are deeply honored to preserve their legacies and continue serving both old and new clients alike. Queen Anne Upholstery isn’t just a business. It’s a collaboration, a family, and a team. Many of our employees have been with us since the 1990s, and together, we’ve built a home for craftsmanship that stands the test of time.
If you’re a past customer of any of the names above, or simply someone seeking the best in upholstery and refinishing, we’re here to help. We invite you to visit us, reach out with questions, or stop by and see the quality for yourself. Thanks for being part of the journey!
